Jon Morrison Contact CU Woodshop
About Jon Morrison: Jon Morrison is a life-long woodworker, starting work with his father's hand tools and power tools long before he was allowed. Following metal and wood shops in Jr. High, and continued design projects in High School, Jon decided on his chosen career in Industrial Design at the University of Iowa, graduating with the honors degree, BFA in ID. After serving in the USAF at Chanute AFB in Rantoul he resumed his formal education at the University of Illinois, fall of 1971, where he taught various courses in Basic Design, Interior Design and after graduating with a MFA in ID, taught Industrial Design as a visiting professor.

Materials and processes began to be a constant course of study in and out of the classroom for Jon as he applied it to a wide variety of consumer products from furniture to methane digesters to housing. During his 30 year career as a residential and commercial contractor he shared his first hand growing knowledge of Design/ Construction Technologies, teaching most courses in this curriculum for 12 years at Parkland College concurrent with his construction business. Jon introduced the Festool Track Saw System to his Parkland students after becoming a proficient user doing various remodeling projects and while using it for European frameless cabinetry. He produced several innovative kitchens in this very efficient space saving system of cabinetry.

Becoming a founding partner in CU Wood Shop Supply Inc. in 2008, Jon began the task of further educating himself in the unique and highly innovative tools in The Festool System that he had not yet used. Now, having taken two introductory and three advanced courses in Festool's dealer training program he has achieved the distinction of Festool "Specialist". He is an owner/ user of most Festool System tools. He shares his knowledge garnered from his 19 years of on the job and classroom training.

Jon avidly shares his many years of acquired knowledge of materials and processes in woodworking and cabinetmaking as well as his understanding of good tool design and application to woodworker needs, making his teaching a valuable asset to his students. His ability to articulate and demonstrate this precise, clean, compact, safe, and surprisingly affordable system, especially for modest sized shop or garage space owners, will introduce great value and precision into their total woodworking experience.
